The Hamilton Book Tag

What’s based on songs from a musical but came two years too late? This tag! Okay, technically this tag has existed since Hamilton was the Big Thing, but I’m only just now doing it. And I picked it in honor of the Mean Girls cast recording coming out yesterday. I know there’s not really a connection, but they’re both musicals so it’s whatever.

  1. The Room Where It Happens: Book World You Would Put Yourself In

Shades_of_Magic_trilogy

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab. Specifically Red London. I love the vibe of that world so much. It’s got that home-away-from-home feel of Harry Potter, but is a far more unique concept. Plus, I mean, Kell lives there and he’s my son so.

  1. The Schuyler Sisters: Underrated Female Character

CityOfBrass-crop

Nahri from The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. She’s so clever and conniving. Also, she’s powerful?? I mean?? A woman???? She’s coming for that crown!

  1. My Shot: A Character That Goes After What They Want And Doesn’t Let Anything Stop Them

Kelsea Raleigh from The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. Whether that be challenging the Red Queen, changing corrupt policies, or even just ascending to the damn throne, she gives everything 110%.  There is so much standing in her way and almost no way she should be able to succeed, and yet she never gives up. I would die for her.

  1. Burn: The Most Heartbreaking End To A Relationship You’ve Ever Read

360634585

Pattyn and Ethan from Burned by Ellen Hopkins. Spoilers ahead, but Pattyn leaves her abusive father to go stay with her aunt and meets the absolute love of her life. She winds up pregnant and someone who goes to her church finds out and tattles. Then some men from the church literally run Ethan off the road, causing an accident and killing him. I may not be a fan of Hopkins’ work anymore, but these two deserved their happy ending.

  1. You’ll Be Back: Sassiest Villain

Sebastian Morgenstern from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I mean, there’s literally a scene where a captive Jocelyn begs Sebastian to torture her and leave Clary alone and he rolls his eyes and says, “I am torturing you.” That’s the sassiest damn thing I’ve ever heard a villain say in my entire goddamn life.

  1. The Reynolds Pamphlet: A Book With A Twist That You Didn’t See Coming

21480930

I technically only saw the movie (hence why I’m using the movie version of the cover), but Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I mean, holy fuck, Amy Dunne. I might read the book someday, but I’ll probably just watch the movie again instead.

  1. Non-Stop: A Series You Marathoned

The Merciless by Danielle Vega. I read the whole series in a couple days. Granted, the books are short, but still. I couldn’t put them down.

  1. Satisfied: Favorite Book With Multiples POVs

33797300

The Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo. Each character is deeply flawed and has unique motivations. Love my morally gray antiheros!

  1. Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story: A Book or Series You Feel Like Will Be Remembered Throughout History

harry-potter-series-us

Could the answer really be anything other than Harry Potter? It’s already a classic. This series will outlast humanity, left behind to show future species who we were.

  1. Stay Alive: A Character You Wish Was Still Alive

Luke-Han-Star-Wars-Reunion-Mark-Hamill-Harrison

I know this is a book tag, but I’m picking Han Solo and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. One was murdered by his own son and the other went peacefully after giving himself to the Force, and they both deserved better.
